Why We Chose Elderly Care

Old age should be peaceful, not painful. Yet, for thousands of senior citizens in India, it becomes a phase of loneliness, dependence, and neglect — especially when health begins to fade and families or finances are limited.

Many elderly individuals in old-age homes or living alone struggle to access hospitals due to physical limitations, transportation issues, or financial hardship. Their chronic conditions — like diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, COPD, dementia, and heart disease — often go untreated, leading to avoidable suffering.

Recognizing this silent crisis, Dr. V. Ashwin Karuppan and the Tambaram Medical Foundation (TMF) launched the Elderly Care at Doorstep Program — a compassionate initiative to deliver free medical care directly to the aged, where they live.

This program is built on one powerful belief:

“Care should travel to those who can’t — because compassion has no age limit.”

Impact of the Program

  • TMF currently provides regular free medical camps and services at over 25+ old-age homes across Tamil Nadu.
  • Each visit includes comprehensive health check-ups, doctor consultations, lab tests, and free medications, all delivered onsite.
  • More than 4,000 senior citizens have benefited, receiving not just treatment, but also human connection, empathy, and reassurance.
  • Our team monitors chronic disease management, ensuring continuity of care for conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and respiratory ailments.

Psychological and emotional support sessions help combat loneliness and depression, restoring dignity and joy in their twilight years.

Beyond Medicine – Healing with Humanity

  • Nutritional support and physiotherapy sessions to promote mobility and strength.
  • On-call doctor visits for bedridden or critical patients.
  • Health education for caregivers and volunteers to improve elderly safety and comfort.
  • Festive gatherings and wellness activities organized to remind them that they are cherished, valued, and never forgotten.

Future Vision

  • Expand to 100 old-age homes across Tamil Nadu by 2030, reaching over 15,000 elderly residents.
  • Establish Mobile Geriatric Care Units equipped with diagnostics and telemedicine for real-time specialist consultations.
  • Set up Elder Health Helpline to provide remote advice and emergency support.
  • Collaborate with research teams to study aging-related diseases and improve geriatric care models in India.
  • Launch “Adopt a Grandparent” initiative, allowing sponsors to directly support an elderly person’s medical and emotional needs.

Why It Matters

Every senior we serve carries decades of wisdom, sacrifice, and stories — they built the world we live in.
At TMF, we believe they deserve not just care, but respect, comfort, and companionship in return.

Our Elderly Care at Doorstep Program transforms healthcare into a homecoming of compassion — ensuring that age is met with dignity, not despair.

Through this initiative, Dr. V. Ashwin Karuppan continues his vision of inclusive and humane healthcare, where no age, ailment, or address limits access to healing.
