Why We Chose to Build Awareness

Healthcare is not just about hospitals — it begins in homes, schools, and communities.
Most illnesses can be prevented or treated early if people have access, awareness, and timely guidance. Yet, for millions, medical help comes only when the disease has already advanced.

To change this, Dr. V. Ashwin Karuppan and the Tambaram Medical Foundation (TMF) launched a series of Free Medical Camps and Awareness Programs, bringing healthcare to the people, before disease strikes.

This initiative embodies our belief that prevention is more powerful than cure, and that education is the first step toward healthier living.

Our Commitment and Impact

1. Free Multispecialty Medical Camps
  • TMF organizes monthly free medical camps across rural and semi-urban areas, ensuring accessible, comprehensive care for all.
  • Each camp covers multiple specialties on rotation, including:
  1. General Medicine
  2. Orthopedics
  3. Ophthalmology
  4. Gynecology
  5. Pulmonology
  6. Diabetology and Cardiology
  • Services include free consultations, diagnostic tests, and basic medicines, with referrals to TMF centers for advanced care.
  • To date, TMF has conducted over 500 free medical camps, benefiting more than 80,000 individuals.

“For many villagers, this is their first-ever health check-up. The joy of reassurance and early diagnosis is beyond words.”

2. Awareness Programs in Schools & Colleges
  • The youth are the heartbeat of the nation — healthy students create a healthy future.
  • TMF conducts interactive awareness sessions for school and college students, covering topics such as:
  1. Women’s Safety & Self-Care
  2. Mental Health and Stress Management
  3. Preventive Medicine & Healthy Lifestyle
  4. Substance Abuse and Tobacco Awareness
  • Over 50 institutions have partnered with TMF so far, touching the lives of more than 10,000 students.
  • These sessions inspire young minds to take ownership of their health, protect others, and become ambassadors of wellness in their communities.
3. Health Camps for Social & Public Service Workers
  • TMF believes in caring for those who care for us.
  • Our special medical camps for police personnel, sanitation staff, and social workers recognize their relentless public service.
  • These frontline workers often face stress, fatigue, and health neglect due to long hours and lack of access to regular check-ups.
  • Through these camps, TMF provides preventive screening, mental health support, and lifestyle counselling — reaffirming that their service deserves our gratitude and care.

Future Vision

  • Expand to 1,000 camps per year, reaching over 2 lakh beneficiaries annually.
  • Introduce Mobile Health Units to cover remote villages and tribal belts.
  • Partner with schools, corporates, and NGOs to scale awareness programs across South India.
  • Develop a “TMF Health Education Curriculum” for institutions to sustain health awareness year-round.
  • Establish Community Wellness Hubs to continue screening and counselling between major camps.

Beyond Camps – Building a Culture of Care

  • Follow-up systems ensure that individuals diagnosed during camps receive continued care.
  • Data-driven research from these programs helps TMF understand disease patterns and improve prevention strategies.
  • Every camp becomes not just a medical event, but a bridge between communities and care — spreading health, trust, and hope.

The Camps & Awareness Programs reflect Dr. V. Ashwin Karuppan’s mission to make healthcare a movement, not a privilege.
By combining free care, education, and compassion, TMF transforms lives — one camp, one student, one community at a time.
